BILLINGHAM TOWN v ASHINGTON PREVIEW EBAC NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
MATCH INFO: Match Day 4 Saturday 17th August, Bedford Terrace, Kick Off 3:00pm Town: All Royal Blue Ashington: Black & White Stripes, Black Shorts.
FOCUS ON ASHINGTON: Ashington have traditionally been a top half of the table club but they struggled for points last season, as they finished third from bottom ahead of Whickham and Penrith. Manager Ian Skinner will be looking for better results this season and they have begun spritely at home, but conversely have struggled on the road. Curtis Coppen will skipper the side while others to note include Kyle Downey - Gavin Caines and Mark Lancaster whom made their debuts against West Auckland Town. There are some familiar names from our days in division two: both Ian Herron and Scot Lowery figured for Bedlington Terriers, although Lowery spent last season at Tow Law Town.
ONE TO WATCH: DAN TAGGART Focal point of Ashington’s attack. Prolific striker and much sought after in the past with spells at Morpeth Town, Whitley Bay and North Shields. Two goals to his name this season.
RECENT RESULTS: Seaham Red Star 2-0 Ashington Ashington 2-0 Albion Sports (Coppen, Ross) - FA CUP Ashington 2-1 West Auckland Town (Taggart, Johnston) Hebburn Town 5-1 Ashington (Taggart) Ashington 1-2 Sunderland West End (Johnston) Ashington 0-3 Blyth Spartans Ashington 5-2 Bootle (Price, Johnston 2, Hanson, Downey) Ashington 4-1 Bedlington Terriers (Hanson, Taggart, Downey, Robson)
LAST ENCOUNTER: 2013/14 NL1: Billlingham Town 1 (Flockett) Ashington 8 (G Taylor 4, Walton 2, Carson, Johnson)
TALKING TOWN: Reece Kenney sits out this game rather than next weeks FA Cup fixture against Ossett United; Kenney was sent off against Yorkshire Amateur in the previous round. Players are starting to trickle back from holidays and unavailability. Jamie Davis made his seasonal reappearance against Hebburn Town and Mark Dixon also returns to the squad. Paul Edwards has a selection headache in central defence as James Frazer, Jamie Poole, Stephen Oakley and Kris Summers are all available although Kris will miss at least four games to come due to holidays, starting with Ossett Albion and ending with Bishop Auckland. Kurtis Howes is also on holiday while Dan Flounders is still struggling through injury.
