BILLINGHAM TOWN v HEBBURN TOWN PREVIEW
EBAC NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
Tuesday 13th August, Bedford Terrace, Kick Off 7:30pm.
Town: All Royal Blue
Hebburn: Black & Yellow Stripes, Black Shorts.
FOCUS ON HEBBURN:
Probably the bookies favourites for the title, Hebburn have already got off to a blistering start, inflicting crushing defeats on Ashington and then Whitley Bay in the FA Cup. Last summer, the club plucked Graeme Armstrong, Louis Storey and Luke Sullivan from South Shields and put them all on two year contracts although they have since lost James Fairley to Marske United (now at Bishop Auckland). They followed those stellar signings with another South Shields man - Michael Richardson. And the links between the two clubs doesn’t end their because defender Darren Lough also crossed the Tyne after three seasons for the Mariners. Another skilful player, Ben Dibb-Fuller was always a tricky midfielder while at Team Northumbria. It is clear by the number of proven players at this level that Hebburn are sending out a statement of intent; not only aiming for the title, but also moving up the Pyramid system.
ONE TO WATCH: GRAEME ARMSTRONG
In good scoring form during pre-season and now prolific, particularly from the penalty spot with all his goals against Whitley Bay coming from twelve yards. Already on eight strikes for the new campaign! His former clubs include Gateshead, Whitby, Darlington, Spennymoor and South Shields.
Whitley Bay 1-7 Hebburn (Armstrong 3, Storey, og, Donaghy, Taylor) - FA CUP
Hebburn 3-0 Penrith (Armstrong, Richardson, Spence)
Hebburn 5-1 Ashington (Armstrong 4, Sullivan)
Hebburn 3-4 South Shields (Armstrong, Richardson, Storey)
Hebburn 3-2 Jarrow (Martin 2, Lough)
Hebburn 2-4 Gateshead (Armstrong 2)
Birtley Town 2-1 Hebburn (Hakmaoul)
Hebburn 1-3 Sunderland (Richardson)
2017/18 NL2: Billlingham Town 1 (Lavan) Hebburn Town 4 (Chow 4)
There could be further defensive reshuffling with Mark Dixon on holiday and Matty Robinson working away. Lee Moore may move across to left-back with the possibility of James Frazer or Elliott Beddow moving to right back. Kris Summers returns from a one match ban and skipper Stephen Oakley is also available. Jamie Poole has figured in both of Towns clean sheets so Paul Edwards has plenty of options open to him. Reece Kenney has a one game suspension to come but Kurtis Howes isn’t available so Luke Hogan could be set for a start. Dan Flounders will have a fitness test beforehand. Elsewhere, Dave Hillerby has signed for Northallerton Town.
