THE OVERVIEW:
On paper, this should be a fascinating cup final for differing reasons. Northallerton, smarting from missing out on promotion for yet another year will be eager to at least get their hands on some silverware - a competition they last won in 2017, defeating Stockton Town. For Chester Le Street, their league form has dipped of late but it is often the case, when a club may have focused more on the upcoming cup final. The Cestrians also have the psychological advantage of doing the double over Northallerton in the league this season. Chester are current defending cup winners, having beaten Ryton & Crawcrook Albion in last years final. Undoubtedly, Northallerton have had the toughest route to the final, defeating sides from the top half of the table but Chester Le Street have played an extra round along the way.

KEY PLAYERS: CRAIG MARRON & NICKY MARTIN
Marron’s experience will prove invaluable as he leads a young and inexperienced side against a Northallerton team that know each other well. Martin loves the big games and is still spritely as ever. For such a striker lacking in height, it’s amazing how often he scores from headed goals. The Cestrians defence cannot allow him any time and space. The first goal could prove vital because either side are capable of holding onto a lead.

PREDICTION: CHESTER LE STREET TOWN 1 NORTHALLERTON TOWN 2
Despite losing both league fixtures, Northallerton have finished the season in good form and may have too many options going forward. If the Cestrians are on a going day, they could retain the cup but I feel it will be third time lucky this season for Northallerton.

A neutral report will follow.
