Northern League Division Two
Saturday 13th April, Bedford Terrace, Kick Off 3:00pm.
Town: All Royal Blue
BIrtley: Green & White Hooped Shirts, Green Shorts.
Officials: Adam Donaldson, Cameron Atkins, Lynn Brown (late change).
FOCUS ON BIRTLEY:
Birtley are another side who have been enigmatic of late. Three wins on the bounce were followed by two heavy losses within a week. Invariably, their best results have come on home turf and their away record reads as: W3 D6 L7. Town defeated Birtley 3-1 in the FA Vase back in September and ran out comfortable 4-0 winners on the road during November. The One To Watch for those two fixtures was striker Joe Barwick who has twenty league goals to his name but, as of yet, to trouble Town’s defence. Since the 4-0 win, Birtley have brought in several new faces, mainly from local football (Birtley St Joseph’s) and a few from Northern League sides. Jack Brown (Goalkeeper) came from Consett, Mechak Kanda from Seaham Red Star, and Kallum Hampson-Broadhead from Ryton. Skipper, Tom Soutar will lead the defence and Aaron McEwan can be dangerous going forward.
ONE TO WATCH: OLIVER LEEDHAM
Striker who’s clubs include Gateshead, Dunston UTS and Newcastle Benfield. Scored five goals since his introduction to the side from injury, ironically that debut was against Billingham in November. Can take set-pieces.
Esh Winning 6-2 Birtley (Guy, Smith)
Birtley 0-3 West Allotment Celtic
Birtley 6-1 Bedlington Terriers (Leedham 2, Barwick 3, Hill)
Chester Le Street Town 0-1 Birtley (Williamson)
Birtley 4-2 Northallerton Town (Barwick 3, Leedham)
Easington Colliery 3-0 Birtley
Crook Town 5-3 Birtley (Surrey, og, Hay)
Brandon United 1-1 Birtley (Hill)
2018/19 FA VASE: Billingham Town 3 Birtley Town 1 (Flounders, Morris, Summers)
2017/18 Birtley in Northern Alliance League
2016/17 Birtley in Northern Alliance League
2015/16 Billingham Town 1 Birtley Town 0 (Lines)
BILLINGHAM LAST SIX HOME: WLWWWW
BIRTLEY LAST SIX AWAY: WDLLWL
There were two milestones achieved during last weeks 2-0 win at Redcar Athletic. Craig Hutchinson’s penalty took him to forty goals for the current campaign and the same strike meant Billingham Town had reached a hundred League goals for the season! As Saturday is Towns final home fixture, a victory would mean only one league defeat at Bedford Terrace since the campaign began with a 4-1 rout against Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. To continue the theme of outstanding statistics, Town are averaging close to three goals per home game! Regards to team news, Luke Hogan is definitely out with an ankle injury and Liam McPhillips pulled up in the preliminaries against Redcar Athletic. Stephen Jackson could return in place of McPhillips. The squad trained only once this week, on Wednesday night to keep the lads fresh.
