Bishops 12 points behind with 4 games remaining, in the last 5 games Bishops have dropped 14 points.
It's obvious to me that Bishops never wanted promotion. What else could explain such a drastic loss of form?
It's not surprising though coming from the longest serving northern League club. It must be difficult to make that leap, especially when everyone must be really looking forward to their 100th season in the NL next season. Promotion would have really scuppered those major celebrations from club and fans alike.
Anyway, onwards and, err, same again for next year. As always.

Or could it be that Bishops simply aren't good enough to win the league and make the step up?

You'd think Bishops had never progressed beyond the Northern League, or had to return for a series of reasons...

Injuries at the worst possible time haven't help, not a huge squad and were not quite there in terms of starting 11.have to remember when Ian Chandler took over we only had 2 players.not everyone can live of brad groves milkions

Everybody at the start of the season said it would come to this scenario where teams with no ambition would throw a few games to make sure they werent in that position.
Bishops obviously never wanted to be in that position

Quite a dip in form from the 2 nearest challengers to Dunston, Consett and Bishop. Hebburn, RCA and Stockton could go above them both if current form continues.

Personally, I can't believe any manager, coach or player would allow themselves to be told, "take it easy we don't want to win".
Unless that's me being old school and wanting to win whatever I do I just can't envisage it at all.......

Is there absolutely, definitely, without doubt only 1 team being promoted from ENL1 this season ?

Yes & these are the standardised rules:
Step 4 and Step 5
The Clubs in the bottom two places in each of the seven divisions at Step 4 at the end of the Regular Season will be relegated and placed in the most geographically appropriate division at Step 5. These Clubs will be replaced by the fourteen Clubs finishing in first position in each of the fourteen divisions at Step 5 at the end of the Regular Season.

What if a few clubs fold, resign or get demoted, would teams in relegation spots just get a reprieve?

We've come along way since last year.time wasn't built in a day.just not quite there yet.had to chop squad a bit in November and did fantastic for a couple month after that but once injuries kicked in we fell away.quite simple really.still, top 6 next year, shall see how the summer goes

Reprieves will be offered to the 2nd bottom placed sides only. But any teams that resign/fold/demoted will be placed in last place of their step 4 leagues. In the case of North Ferriby Utd, them folding at step 3 will mean there will be a reprieve at step 4 on a ppg basis. At the moment that reprieve will be given to the 2nd bottom placed club in the NPL1E(Carlton Town at present).
I doubt we’ll see more than 7 clubs fold/resign/demoted. But if we do, then it’ be down to the FA’s League Committees discretion. They promoted about 3, 3rd placed step 5 sides last season & they were all on a ppg basis.

Im sure the Bishops management team will already be looking toward next season and what is required to make sure we finish in the qualification spots for promotion, whether that be top 4/5/6 or whatever. Squad depth is something that is hard to maintain at this level but that is where we need to improve in my eyes to move to that next stage. Well done Dunston UTS, most consistent organised team (even though we beat them in our only meeting so fat this season
) and that shows - gone on to win the league with plenty to spare.
