THORNABY v BILLINGHAM TOWN PREVIEW

MATCH INFO:
Northern League Division Two
Saturday 2nd March, Teesdale Park, Thornaby, Kick Off 3:00pm.
Thornaby: Blue & White Shirts, White Shorts.
Town: All Red.
Officials: David Holmes, Barry Brooks, Andrew Broadbent.

FOCUS ON THORNABY:
Undoubtedly, the form team in the division, Thornaby have not lost a league game since the 15th December - 1-2 at home to Jarrow when ex Town winger Glen Hargrave did Billingham a favour by scoring a brace. A temporary loss of form around Christmas may have scuppered promotion hopes but a renaissance since then, combined with Town losing twice and dropping points against Brandon United has given the North Riding club a sniff of winning the championship. Billingham are two points ahead with a game in hand but Thornaby do have the momentum going into the match. The reverse fixture was one of the most entertaining games of the season when Billingham ran out worthy 3-1 winners and no doubt Thornaby will be seeking revenge and have the dj mixing set on standby in readiness afterwards like they did at Northallerton Town! The squad is full of quality although they don’t have an out an out striker such as Craig Hutchinson. Kyran Clark will spearhead the attack, supported by Kurtis Howes (see below) and former Town winger Lewis Murphy. Joe Posthill & Jordan Wilson also like to get in forward positions. Experience comes from Paul Roddam, Jamie Poole and Paul Crager. From Billingham Town’s 2016/17s squad, Mattie Osmond and Aaron Foley have also featured for Thornaby this season. Charlie Graham (sent off in the 1-3 defeat to Billingham Town) departed this week for division one side Guisborough Town and Niall McGoldrick has signed for Easington Colliery.

ONE TO WATCH: KURTIS HOWES
Possibly the best winger/attacker in division two. Loves to use his pace and strength to cut inside and win penalties. Also Thornaby’s spot taker! Was relatively quiet in the reverse fixture but goes into the game in excellent form with 19 league goals to his name.

RECENT RESULTS:
West Allotment Celtic 0-2 Thornaby (Howes, Murphy)
Thornaby 1-0 Chester Le Street Town (Clark)
Northallerton Town 1-4 Thornaby (Howes, Chapman, Murphy, Posthill)
*Northallerton Town 2-2 Thornaby (Howes 2) - EAMC
Bedlington Terriers 0-5 Thornaby (Howes 2, Poole, Clark, Roddam)
Thornaby 2-1 Brandon United (Poole 2)
Marske United 3-1 Thornaby (Clark) - NRSC
Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 0-2 Thornaby (Posthill, Murphy)
*Northallerton Town won on penalty kicks

RECENT ENCOUNTERS:
2017/18 Thornaby 1 Billingham Town 1 (Oakley)
2016/17 Thornaby 0 Billingham Town 5 (Connor, Hogan, Hutchinson 2, Beddow)
2015/16 Thornaby 2 Billingham Town 1 (Hutchinson)

THORNABY LAST SIX HOME: LDWWWW
TOWN LAST SIX AWAY: WWWWWL

TALKING TOWN:
On the injury front, Stephen Oakley will be out with a knee problem and Stephen Jackson is expected to miss two weeks of action with a foot injury. Reece Kenney has returned to light training but won’t be expected to figure until the end of March. Ash Lavan will make the squad again after limping off against Durham City but came on in the second half against Tow Law Town and suffered no repercussions. The management made bold decisions last week on selecting an attacking line-up and may go for the same starting eleven although Luke Hogan & Joe Hillerby will be pushing for a place. There are no suspensions and apart from the said injuries, Town have a full squad to choose from.
