Whitley Bay have a goal disallowed for penalty, them miss the penalty and Hebburn go straight up the other end to make it 8-0.

Whitley Bay statement.

Whitley Bay manager Mick Mulhern has tonight been relieved of his duties.
We would like to thank Mick for all his efforts since taking over as manager in November and we wish him the best of luck in the future.

Shame seeing Whitley bay like this. They never really kicked on after there vase wins. Going back a few years I know. Something wrong somewhere. Wonder who they get in next.

they have only won the northern league once since they were relegated from the unibond league would not call that dominating the league

Yep, were challenging for the title on many occasions around the period of Vase domination, but their refusal to even consider promotion had seen them going backwards for years now, instead of capitalising on all of that additional support and publicity.

Still get a good crowd every week, although obviously not as good as a few years ago, but former players and managers have confirmed the lack of budget or ambition.

Where did all the money go, and why are they so badly run?

So true and folk say promotion harms clubs. A regular fan once told me those running the club were like nike ashely and had no ambition these days

Its lovely to hear the "no promotion, no ambition" gang spout off every time something like this happens, but what if the club felt it wasn't financially viable to move up and endangered the club as a whole?

Think about it !!

Absolute nonsense. Plenty of clubs with a worse set up and much lower crowds survive in the higher divisions no problem. Whitley were quite happy being a big fish in a small pond, there are plenty of ex players and even managers that'll tell you it's the board that have no ambition.

A cynic would suggest they applied with no intention of pursuing it. I can remember one season where going into the last game they needed to win by 13 goals to sneak second place.

They went 5-0 up in the first half and the looks of terror on the faces of the board were hilarious.

Everyone's known for years, since the Vase era that there was something rotten going on, this is the inevitable result.

Exactly. Have no sympathy for them at all. Not so long back they were averageing crowds of 300 which plenty of evostick premier clubs can survive on. Big fish small pond sure springs to mind.
