NORTH EAST TEAMS APPLY FOR PROMOTION
The Football Association today announced the teams that have applied for promotion to Step 6 of the National League System (NLS).
Three teams from the region have applied: Newcastle University (who play at Kimberley Park, Prudhoe), Hebburn Town Reserves and Sunderland West End (who play at the Nissan Sports Complex).
Under FA rules, teams apply for promotion to a Step in the national system rather than for promotion to a specific league. It is for the FA to decide to which league they are allocated.
Newcastle University are currently in the Northern Football Alliance League, with Hebburn Town Reserves and Sunderland West End in the TWR Wearside League. Only one club per league can be promoted to Step 6.
The application by Hebburn is subject to the first team being promoted to Step 4 (as FA rules stipulate there need to be two divisions separating teams at the same club).
The Ebac Northern League Division One is at Step 5 of the NLS and Division Two at Step 6.
Promotions decisions will be made by the FA at the end of the season. Each application will now be assessed to validate the eligibility of each club from a ground grading, ground-sharing (i.e. must be in the same ground next season as the whole of the 2018-19 season) and the regulatory point of view.

Looks like a free run for both West end and The Uni. Cant see Hebburn winning promotion now so that would that scupper the Reserves chances ?

So we have a University team that play miles away from the Uni, a reserve team and a team that play at a soulless sports complex. I thought Wolviston would apply, they seem to have ambition

Anyone know where they have to finish to gain promotion?

Sunderland west ends new ground is currently under construction on the site of their old ground but wont be finished until late 2019. I'd imagine they'd be moving back there for the 20/21 season

Wolviston have no floodlights so cannot gain promotion.

First two teams in their retrospective leagues can seek promotion. That could scupper Sunderland West End.

Was thinking similiar. Newcastle uni play a few mile from the uni and have essentially relocated to a northern league standard ground to gain promotion. Dont recall a reserve team in the league so not sure what fan base they would get, do they play at hebburn towns ground? Sunderland west end seemed to have moved out of town to gain promotion too. This rarely ends well as history has proven

Well obviously the Sunderland West End situation is temporary but their new ground when finished will have everything required for the NL2.
They’re also very well supported.

Promotion can be taken as long as lights are installed by 31 March the following year I believe. That's what Heaton Stan did

Floodlights have to be installed by the end of September, all other work is the 31st march. No matter what issues you come up against you will be fined for every week they aren’t up. I presume this NL ruling applies to all other teams who have ground issues and can’t fulfill fixtures.

Wolviston were telling me that they were applying. Probably too soon for them!
*been told that the committee didn’t apply because of the costs & timescale. Those at the club only found out today & were slightly shocked.

It’s the highest placed applicant, that achieves a top 5 position & passes the ground grading.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Sunderland West End's new ground which is under construction going to have a 3g pitch ?
