Spenny beat a top National league team today with the scorers being two players signed from northern league Ashington.
The brace by Taylor is as good as you'll ever see from a part time player. Watch out for the highlights when they come out tomorrow. AJ's goal was all pace, power and persistence.

How many other gems are there in the northern league who could easily play at the top two levels of the English non league game? Go on, give them a shout out and credit where it's due.

Suprised Towns game went ahead yesterday due to state of the Brewery Field pitch but well done great result for Town!

Extremely hard to tell what players could make the step up to National North / National Prem level if they have never played higher previously but im going say Michael Hoganson at Bishops would have a good chance. Oozes class and makes everything he does at Northern League level look so easy. Also Holden of Consett in a similar ilk.

Having watched Northern League games for over a decade now
I know that there are dozens of players who have the ability to play at a lot higher standard .
The question is do they want to play at that standard ??

I’d say many don’t, when you can get paid same / more for less work ie less travel etc

Totally agree but things will change for the better due to enforced promotion as the big spenders leave the league

Hopefully leaving a more competitive league, gems can be found at every level for various reasons, but realistically players shouldn’t be so comfortable at teams in divisions a few above

Good shout for Hoganson. He spent a season or so at Spenny and was obviously a very good player. His only problem was an injury and being behind Griffiths in the pecking order who is now full time and doing well at York.

What about his cousin Priestley?

Any more names out there?

Priestley Griffiths certainly had/has the potential to be a v.good footballer. Left Bishops during last seasons struggles to play in the Icelandic top division.
