Hard fought 3 points at Gizzy for Bishops today. Always felt comfortable until late on when there were a few nervous moments. Another goal from Ryder who has stepped up to the plate after the departure of Cal Patton. Nice to see Daz Richardson back on the scoresheet also.

Planning on heading to Crook v Birtley this week, haven't been to Crook this season but it is one of my personal favourite NL grounds.

Noticed Birtley haven't won since September and in 8 league games with some heavy defeats, quite a slippery slope they seem to be on. Thought they had a decent start too on their NL return...

Hopefully the weather behaves :D

Birtley are a strange one they had a good start but look like the alliance team they should still be, lacking all over the pitch and now in danger of going down again.

Surely if the manager wasn’t family of the board he would of been replaced?

Give the kid a break great start settled side players performing then injuries kicked in and with not a pot to p&&s in can't do what other teams do and throw money at the problem he has had to beg steal and borrow to try to get them on even keel when they get full team back they will be fine went to watch them Saturday and they more than matched the 2nd top team of whom some of their players won't be on peanuts looking at team sheet if wasn't for current commitee wouldn't be a club they will be fine and cheap dig in my eyes!!

I don't think anyone is having a dig here, it's an open forum where everyone is entitled to an opinion. I was just stating that they seem to be on a slope more slippery than the French alps. Granted they may not have the money to throw around at players but this is surely where the manager has to be clever with the money he does have.

I must agree they do have a great committee running the club.

When we played them the other week their injury list was up to something daft like 14, with another getting injured during our game. It's always going to be a struggle for a side who can't get a settled team out.

Can i just clarify that our manager has 1 family member involved with the club and thats me. We have a committee of 10 who make the decisions not 1 like under the previous regime. As Neil says we have never seen an injury list like it. I would doubt very much if any club could cope with the injury list we have had over the last couple of months. To say the manager is only in the job because of family id absolutely ridiculous.

have to agree with my learned friend AMB who has been there and got many T shirts to prove it. I was at the Billingham Town game and whilst Birtley got well and truly turned over ( not on their own against Billy town there) the players on the field gave everything they could for the manager and the club. The manager was passionate (and loud!!) trying to help and encourage his players as much as he could. Birtley are now a well run club which has a good base and good people behind the scenes. I think the manager and his staff deserve every bit of time to consolidate this season and look to the future. I understand there are horrendous injury problems at Birtley so I think the manager is doing exactly what NLV wants and is being clever to get a competitive team out week in week out. I certainly wish my home town club every success in the future (except when playing CLS!!!) and as I say the manager deserves time and a bit of luck

I'm yet to see Birtley this season but going toe-to-toe with Thornaby at the weekend doesn't sound like a team in desperate turmoil to me. And as previously mentioned, an injury list of 14 players is tough to handle, especially when you're on a shoestring budget. I believe survival was the target back in August and imagine it still is. Get the injured players back and I think they'll be sound.

Looking from the outside in it just seems after dropping down the table and no win in months the manager is getting an easy ride because of his surname. 9/10 clubs would have made a change.

No win in months? They won on 7th November and have only played 3 games since!

Good club Birtley. Extremely friendly people at the gate unlike the odd club in our division where you feel unwanted. Give you a clue.... not far from us up the road!
