Just a quick message to say I've launched a new site to cover football in County Durham, cunningly going by the name of http://www.footyindurham.com

Covering 36 teams in the ceremonial county of Durham from National League down to Wearside League. http://footyindurham.com/coverage/

We're looking to build it up over the year as a good resource for local football so please take a look,

cheers

I would think Birtley Town could be right on the border . We actually use Co Durham post code DH and official mail comes with County Durham on it ?

There are a lot more than 36 teams in the ceremonial county of Durham...
The ceremonial county boundaries roughly reflected those held by Durham County FA until 1967.

So, basically, from the North bank of the Tees to the South bank of the Tyne and over to Cumbria.

That includes DH3, SR2, NE38, DL14, TS19 and many others too...

However, Birtley is now in Gateshead. Darlo is a separate unitary authority and so on.

I think there is often confusion between Historic boundaries, postal codes and actual local authority boundaries. When I lived in Elm Street Chester le street it was a DH3 post code, yet in under Durham County Council control.

This one needs a bit of clarity!

Stockton West End and Yarm & Eaglescliffe are surely open to consideration. North Riding Premier teams within the ceremonial boundaries.

Winlaton was in County Durham until 1974 and they are in the Northern Alliance Premier.

Another interesting boundary is 'down to the Wearside League', especially considering that Step seven no longer exists...

I thought that quote was attributed, by many, to Bill Shankly?

I remember when Birtley moved from Durham county to Gateshead in the early seventies. Fight like hell for B and L (Birtley and lamesley) was the catch phrase used sadly in vain. I remember fantastic plans for a sports and leisure centre, swimming pool, the works to be built opposite the AEI factory on the old pond site by Durham County council were shelved and a much smaller pool only built further along opposite caterpillar/komatsu by Gateshead council.

I changed my mind loads on the boundaries and ended up with a bit of a mishmash. I've not included clubs in Gateshead or Sunderland council areas which just covers Birtley, and also used the River Tees as the southern boundary. Good point re the North Riding clubs, I will have a look at that when I get a sec.

Thanks for the comments though, it is off to a good start.

Just make it Durham FA and the old Durham borders to keep it simple. As a Birtley lad been fighting T+W since 1974

Always makes me chuckle that the skunks "anthem" is all about leaving Northumberland and heading to County Durham

Yeah i saw cover the same area the durham challenge cup covers, north of the tees to gateshead. Good content anyhow, great to see lesser known teams covered like west auckland tuns. My granda used to play on that pitch when he played for cockfield just after the war

That Cockfield connection was the reason I went up to see West Auckland Tunns last pre-season. Had an 'on this day' rewrite of it last month: https://bit.ly/2ZFVxYj

But of course Eaglescliffe is in Durham. As a club we persevere to get our own ground. This maybe in either county.
