Post subject:  Club legend Brian Slane...

is the subject of my latest Blyth Spartans History blogs -

Brian was an absolutely prolific goalscorer for the great Blyth Spartans teams of the early 70’s and went on to become manager of one of the Northern Leagues greatest ever sides.

It’s a fascinating story of how a player came late to the game and made such a lasting impact and became one of the leagues all time greats.

I got to watch Brian only towards the end of his career, but even then you could see his skill.

A true legend.

By the way the Back o’ the Shaft in Leadgate was a scruffy little pub, but with great atmosphere! My father used to take me to the folk club there and it was renowned for serving beer to the underaged customers ( I was 14 and by no means the youngest drinker! )
